Review: 2005 VVW Pinot Noir

A local wine shop around here called Vin, Vino, Wine has made two barrels of their own Pinot Noir. I got a bottle ($24) the other day and gave it a try. Not surprisingly it is beautiful Pinot. The guys at VVW love their Burgundies and followed that aesthetic when crafting this wine. Only available through their shop, it is on sale this month for $19.95 (6 bottle’s or more). Read on for their self-review.

2005 Pinot Noir “Russian River” (Vin, Vino, Wine)
Here is an exclusive treat for our VVW community, our first private label wine. Our own J.J. Clifton worked s a winemaker in the Russian River Valley before he joined us (at an excellent winery that wishes to remain nonymous in print, but ask us and we’ll tell you). He still works there on an occasional basis. This 2005 is a two barrel lot he made and finished. It is excellent Russian River Pinot Noir, and fabulous bargain. It’s California Pinot Noir the way we like it, with a lovely cherry fruit and spice aroma, a lively palate of fresh, zesty Pinot fruit with a just barely discernable hint of oak, and a clean, tingling finish. It’s zesty, it’s flavorful, it’s light on its feet, the kind of wine you enjoy from the first sip to the last. If you are tired of over-extracted, high alcohol, overly-oaked California Pinot, you’ll love ours. It’s a sensational bargain at $19.25 on six bottles.
