Barrels and a Rack

Published by gardner under 2007

A few weeks ago I picked up a 2005 French Oak barrel in Sonoma. I learned two things that day about the size of a Bordeaux barrel:

1. Two barrels will fit in a volvo station wagon

2. Our cellar door has to be removed every time we move a barrel.

A few weeks later I picked up a rusty old barrel rack from Lewis Cellars and – with the help of the kind and talented Kent Fortner of Green Truck Cellars – an ‘03 Hungarian barrel from Chandon. The barrels are in the cellar, but the rack is still being cleaned up.

I spent the first two days of my freedom (school started) grinding all the rust off. Tomorrow I paint.

Grapes are ripening

Published by gardner under 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon

I don’t have a spectrometer, but I am surprised how sweet the cabernet grapes are tasting already. I guess I will know when they are ripe when the birds eat them all.
