Trip to PMR Vineyards

I went up to MR Vineyards on Mt. Eden today with Linus and his family. We pulled a few barrel samples of their own wine (personal consumption). As with my own 2006 Cabernet, theirs is huge and shows great potential for being a wonderfully powerful and complex wine. The 2005 Cabernet showed nice structure, but a slightly off-putting nose and strong acidity. That was a bad year for mildew and I didn’t get any of the grapes for my own production. The 2004 Cabernet was great and they will hopefully bottle it soon,

Then things got a little dicey with the 1994 and 1998 Cabernets, both of which had an nose that made you go Eeeew. However, once past it, the flavors were sound. Mostly oxidation and I think there is a way to fine that out.

The 2004 Pinot may be infected with Bret, but the 2006 was wonderful, it was very light, but a varietally accurate nose led to similar classic Pinot flavors. Yum.

The kids loved the tractor rides, but there is a deer(s) loose with in the fence and it has done a number on Bobo’s table grapes. Any hunters want to help out?
