2006 Harvest

What a long day. Too much wine last night at the 49ers Academy Party on top of a linger chest cold and an early wake up to go rent the truck. Ugh.

8:30  Picked up the pick up from Hengehold
8:55  On the road
11:00  Stopped in Healdsburg for a sandwich and more coffee
11:30  Met the Vineyard Manager at “Gardner’s Block”. We went out to look at the vines then back to the cottage to taste the 2005 Merlot. He gave me some great advice and a lesson on water vs. alcohol soluble tannins.
12:00  Started picking the Merlot
2:00 Finished picking the cab and headed back home.

There was some pest damage to the Merlot.

I couldn’t get in touch with my other grape provider who had promised to hold 7 boxes of Cab for me. I was also worried about getting back in time to pick up the crusher. In the end, everything worked out well. I got the crusher and Barc had brought the grapes home with him so I just popped over to his house to get them. It was a long day and I was exhausted, but it felt good and I had my entire harvest in one day!
